Spring is starting to arrive in New England and, with it, walking weather. And soon hiking weather too (we're supposed to stay off mountain trails while they're muddy in the spring, but after Memorial Day, it's okay again). I'm pretty enthused about getting outdoors - walking on a 1/8 mile track at the gym is okay and all but I'd rather be out in nature.

My fund-raising total for the Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day has me effectively $478.62 short of my $2,300 minimum. My total shown on my participant center is $1,223.19 but that doesn't show pending matching gifts from employers that will, in time, post. When those go through I'll be at $1,821.38.

I'd like to go quite a bit beyond that but I "persuaded" Carole to take part in the 3-Day this year as well -- she's been signed up as crew for Boston (in July '09) for months but now she's going to walk Philadelphia in October too, and that means she has to raise $2,300 as well. Once I reach my $2,300 goal I'm going to ask (politely) that people who might otherwise donate toward my total donate toward my wife's -- the money all goes to the same place in the end, anyway.

If anyone's been thinking about donating toward my total, I'd be delighted to have your support. The URL to donate is http://www.the3day.org/goto/jayfurr. It's all tax deductible and it's a heck of a good cause. Everyone deserves a lifetime!
