Two Truths And One Lie
Jan. 24th, 2011 10:35 pmY'all know the game: post two things about yourself that are absolutely true ... and one outright lie. Then everyone else gets to guess which is the lie.
Here's mine:
1) In the mid 1990s the Raleigh News and Observer ran a full-page story declaring that I was "Captain Internet". This did not get me any dates, however. I even have a plaque hanging in my office at home commemorating this dubious "honor".
2) In the early 1990s, while I was in graduate school at Virginia Tech, I received a research grant to study the effects of quantum gravity on social networking (although we called it 'posting a lot of messages on USENET newsgroups', not 'social networking', but it was basically the same thing). The embarrassing thing about it was that I'd applied for the grant as a JOKE.
3) My wife and I have been on the national ABC evening news. In fact, our first date was part of the lead story one night. And not in the background, either! We got to SPEAK.
Okay: which one's the lie? (Then post your own "two truths and a lie" to the comments.)
