Okay, Never Mind The Raffle

jayfurrWhat with the Haiti earthquake and the fact that some people just frankly don't want a teddy bear, the big Vermont Teddy Bear raffle (http://www.furrs.org/raffle.htm) that my wife and I are doing hasn't really set the world on fire, donation-wise.
Then too, it may be that asking $50 just to be in the raffle is asking too much at this point in time. Especially if people already donated a lot to Haiti or any other philanthropy that you support.
That being said, I would be grateful for ANY donation you can spare. You can be sure that your donations go to a good cause: Since its inception in 2003, nearly $500 million has been raised through Komen 3-Day for the Cure donations, contributions and sponsorships. 3-Day for the Cure net proceeds help pay for vital global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Komen for the Cure paid for half a million breast screenings in 2009—part of a nearly $1.5 billion commitment to research, advocacy and community programs since Komen was founded in 1982.
If you donated fifty cents per day toward the quest for a cure and toward breast cancer treatment and prevention programs, you'd do a world of good and you'd scarcely notice the money. Pocket change can make an enormous difference. You can even donate in four monthly installments via the donation URL below -- so if you don't want to donate a lot at once but don't mind donating, say, $15 per month for four months, you can do precisely that.
So anyway: never mind the raffle. If you don't want a teddy bear, don't donate $50. :) Help out if you can, to whatever extent you can, and rest assured that I'll be just as grateful to the person who donates $5 as to the person who donates $500. In the end, we each do what we can.
