Fund Raising
May. 13th, 2008 09:20 amI've kept all my livejournal entries regarding my preparations for and fund raising for the upcoming Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk behind a custom friends filter (but if anyone's interested, let me know and I can add you to that group), so most of y'all wouldn't be aware that I'm getting very close to the $2,200 that the Susan G. Komen folks require each participant to raise if they want to actually get to take part in the walk. Right now I'm at $1,975 -- $225 short of the minimum.
I've been actually kind of astonished at how generous folks have been. As my fellow team member,
sandyinstep, keeps reminding me, breast cancer has touched the families and friends and co-workers of virtually everyone out there, so in her view, I shouldn't be surprised. But nonetheless, I am. Grateful, too.
I'm sort of hoping to get over the minimum in the near future so the pressure's off and I don't have to have that, well, pathetically hopeful look on my face each time I talk to someone about it. :)
I've got various plans for going well beyond the minimum, including setting up a table at the post office some sunny Saturday and sitting there with Carole, both of us dressed in pink, with a big stack of brochures and donation forms and bumper stickers and stuff for people who agree to donate. With any luck, I'll be able to go far beyond $2,200.
But in the short term, if anyone has some federal tax rebate money on hand and you don't have anything else in mind for it, or you're simply interested in helping out with a good cause, I'd be very, very appreciative of any and all donations. I'm not looking for that $225 all in one lump, in other words. :)
The URL to donate is http://08.the3day.org/goto/jayfurr -- and they DO have an easy-to-use corporate matching gifts option. They also accept installment donations. You can state your total donation amount and state whether you'd like to have it spread out over 1, 2, 3, or 4 payments.
Thanks for reading. Hope everyone has a nice day.
