I Just Voted

Even in my tiny little town in Vermont (population under 4,000) the town clerk's office had five polling booths set up, ready for advance voters to use. Not that there were any lines or anything at 8:30 in the morning, but the town clerk said that a lot of people had already been in and she expected a lot more.

Sure hope there're no stunning changes in the race between now and November 4. For me it'll be TOO LATE to CHANGE MAH MIND!!!!1!

I assume you are voting for Obama, so I think you can rest at
ease - judging by her present antics, Palin will only continue
to sink the Republican ticket.

I figure if they do manage to prove that Obama isn't a citizen,
you'll just have voted for Clinton, & thank you! :->

I don't like the whole early-voting thing much, but that's alright. I just hope I remember to vote for Jay when I go vote.

I didn't do a write-in. The word was put out by the Vermont Secretary of State's office that writing in joke votes was really slowing vote-counting down. People tended to write in names of their acquaintances for the meaningless offices like 'High Bailiff' that often only get one candidate in the race, and each of those ballots had to be manually tabulated.

Vermont uses the scannable forms where you use a special marker and fill in the oval next to your candidate's name. If you want to do a write-in, you mark an oval next to write-in and then write in the name. As those ballots are scanned the machine beeps and some human has to come along and set them aside to be individually gone through. If a non-trivial percentage of people do it, it can double or triple the time to count the votes in a town. (They also said that obvious joke votes like 'Mickey Mouse' are ignored, but anything that looks even remotely real has to be treated as such.)
