jayfurr: (3-Day Ambassador)
[personal profile] jayfurr
It's Tuesday morning and I'm sitting in a hotel room in Woodland Hills, California. It's cool here, and it's been very rainy as well. Not the ideal temperatures for training walking I'd hoped to find when I heard I'd be coming out here, but I'll be here for two weeks and then shift up the coast to San Francisco for a presentation at a conference, then finally head home to Vermont again for two days. Hopefully in that span of time I'll get some good weather and get in a nice long 10-20 mile walk.

Our 3-Day teddy bear raffle is still ongoing. You have until the end of the day on January 31 to donate $50 or more to be included in the raffle. Parenthetically, we know that not everyone wants a pink teddy bear, even a high-quality poseable bear like the ones we're raffling. It's okay. :) It's also okay if you donated recently to Haiti and are holding off on donating to any other charitable causes for a while, or if you have other favorite philanthropies that you support instead. We're not hurt because the number of people who've entered the raffle is low -- as the Tampa Bay 3-Day approaches in October, we hope that interest will be higher.

That being said, if you DO want more details about the raffle, please visit http://www.furrs.org/raffle.htm.

I was recently accepted into the Susan G. Komen 3-Day For The Cure online ambassador program, entitling me too use the 3-Day Ambassador logo on my blog and periodically be linked to by the national office on their Twitter feed and Facebook page and so on. I'm still under review for the more traditional media ambassador program as well. (That would involve me sending out press releases to local news affiliates and trying to get newspaper and radio and TV coverage of the 3-Day and local walkers and stuff.)

I've been busy lately trying to recruit more Vermonters to walk in the events; we don't see a lot of Vermonters in the 3-Day because we're a small, very rural state, and the national organizers don't send field coordinators up to our neck of the woods to hold Get Started meetings. If you're reading this, and you're a Vermonter (or anyone else, really) who's interested in taking part in the 3-Day, please let me know. I'd love to answer any questions you may have or do training walks with you.

Finally, a thought for the day: Assuming you read this blog posting from start to finish, it probably took you two or three minutes. In that time, on average, 3 women died from breast cancer. Every 68 seconds, on average, a woman dies from breast cancer. Please help Susan G. Komen find a cure. You can donate toward my fundraising total, if you're so inclined, at this link: http://www.the3day.org/goto/jayfurr
