I will be walking TWO Susan G. Komen 3-Day For The Cure events in 2010 -- 60 miles in three days TWICE -- and must therefore raise double the $2,300 minimum. (The two cities I will be walking are Washington, DC in early October and Tampa Bay in late October.) All the money raised will go to fight breast cancer and pay for research, education, treatment, and prevention.
A few days ago I issued a challenge to everyone: with $1890 left to go to reach that $4600 that I have to raise, I offered to match 100% of donations up to $630 (1/3 of $1890) -- and noted that my employer will match 100% of that amount as well. In other words, everyone's donation would count TRIPLE... and moreover, I'd be at the minimum necessary to participate in both cities' walks.
I have raised $167 since issuing the challenge. Thanks, Andy, Cat, Jason, and Alec! That leaves $463 left that I need to raise by Mother's Day. If I can raise all of that between now and Sunday I'll immediately donate that $630, file for the employer matching, and that'll be that. I'll be qualified to walk in Washington AND Tampa Bay.
But here's an additional incentive to donate now (if you haven't already and have been thinking about helping out): I know that my constant pleading for donations gets OLD. Every day, it seems, I'm out there on Facebook reminding everyone of my donation link and showing up in your Facebook news feed hat in hand, wheedling for loose change.
{embarrassed acknowledgement of the truth of this}
So, if I can get to the magic number this weekend, I will SHUT UP about fundraising until June 19 (the weekend summer begins), when I'll be walking 60 miles in 24 hours in hopes of raising even more funds for the cause. No more fundraising for a month and a half!
The donation URL is http://www.the3day.org/goto/jayfurr -- and thanks!
