Going The Distance
Jun. 13th, 2010 11:00 pmIncidentally, I'm still planning on having Carole drop me off at the US/Canada border in Alburgh, Vermont at 8 pm this Friday ... and then walking all the way home to my house in Richmond, Vermont -- 60 miles -- in under 24 hours.
(Click here to see my planned route.)
I'm hoping to average no worse than 3.5 miles per hour which would put me home around 1 pm the following day. If I only manage 3 mph I'll be home for supper. In any case, it's all being done to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day For The Cure -- I'm trying to raise $6900 so I can walk 3 cities this fall.
I'll be Tweeting as I walk -- you can find me at http://twitter.com/jayfurr if you'd like to monitor my progress.
Why am I planning on doing this? Well, walking sixty miles in three days seems not to impress folks as much as it used to. I figure if I do the entire distance in one day, hey, that shows commitment, right? In the end, it's a trade-off: I walk my legs off, and you help us find a cure for cancer, alright? I mean, CANCER SUCKS. Any sacrifice is worth it if it helps raise the funding for clinical trials and testing and development and research of potential cancer vaccines and treatments. I'd walk five hundred miles if it'd find a cure. Please help.
My donation link is http://www.the3day.org/goto/jayfurr if you (or anyone you know) would like to help with a donation. Please forward this on to anyone you think might be interested.
