I think I tore my right trapezius muscle. Seriously.

I tore my left trapezius a couple of decades ago by sleeping in a funny position, awakening all cramped and stiff, and somehow tearing it as I flexed to loosen up. I eventually went to a doctor after about two days of dropping to my knees in pain every time anything caused me to turn my head suddenly or flinch. The doctor said "Yeah, you've probably got a minor tear. Basically, you have a mild case of whiplash." The only thing for it was rest, heat, and some muscle relaxants taken at night.

This feels the same way, only not quite as severe. Yet. It ached a bit yesterday but by evening it was seriously stiff and painful. Since I'm in a hotel room and not at my house, I don't have a heating pad handy, and I apparently didn't pack a tube of Icy-Hot either. I would've gone out and bought them but by the time I got to my hotel in San Antonio last night it was fairly late and I was very tired.

This is really, really agonizingly painful. Every time I turn my head or shrug my shoulders, I have a major ARRRRRRRGH moment. It's probably a minor tear, but I'm sure that if I try real hard I can make it worse. When you have a stiff neck there's an urge to flex and shrug and work the kink out, but when you've got a tear of this kind, even a small one, doing a lot of that sort of thing can make it into a major problem.

So: until I'm done here at the customer today I'm gonna be popping acetaminophen like candy (it's what I have handy), but I'll be hitting the local Walgreens or CVS after work. I do not need major neck pain. :(
