And now the news you've all been waiting for: I hereby announce my last "Cure Breast Cancer"-related push of 2010. If I make the goal I'm currently striving for, I will SHUT UP about fundraising for the rest of 2010.

My August schedule just fell into place, allowing me to fly to South Carolina to do a class, then to Minneapolis/St Paul for the Twin Cities 3-Day, and then on to Springfield, Illinois for a class the following week. Instead of flying home to Vermont for the weekend, I will be flying to the land of lutefisk and hotdish to walk sixty miles in the name of finding a cure for breast cancer. I signed up for the Twin Cities today; it's all official.

But as you know, WALKING DOES NOT CURE BREAST CANCER. The main point of the walking is to motivate friends, family, and acquaintances -- and perhaps even some strangers -- to donate generously by showing one's own commitment to the cause.

I am committed to the cause, believe me: I'm signed up to walk three 2010 three-day sixty mile walks (Twin Cities, Washington DC, and Tampa Bay) as well as taking part in a fourth (Boston) as support crew. I could do lots of things with the weekends I'll be giving up to walk, to say nothing of various fun things I could do with all the evenings and weekends I'll be spending walking the roads of Vermont to toughen my feet and legs up for all that pavement pounding during the actual events.

But by the same token, I'm quite, QUITE sure that there are hundreds of thousands of women and men who, if it were left up to them, would vastly prefer to be doing fun things with their families instead of sitting in doctors' offices getting bad news, undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, praying for a positive result that may not come. I have personally spent a good bit of time in cancer research and treatment facilities such as those at Dana Farber in Boston watching patients come in for their treatment -- it is NOT fun and it is NOT something I'd want to put anyone through. I want a cure for those who have breast cancer and I want a vaccine to keep others from getting cancer in the first place.

And we can't do it without your donations.

I've donated a lot of my own money to this cause -- and yes, I've been very lucky in that my employer matches my donations 100%. So, yes, I could just donate $1,000 more to my own fundraising total, get my employer to match it, and be all done with my fundraising for the year.

But I'll be honest: I'd really like YOUR support. :) So I'll make you a deal: if you (everyone out there reading this) will donate a total of $670 in the next couple of weeks, I will self-donate $670, file for matching, and then be done with my fundraising for the year (although I certainly would not mind any additional donations beyond that point).

None of the money donated goes into my own pocket. If you use the donation link below your donation will go directly to Susan G. Komen For The Cure and you will get a tax receipt to include with your 2011 tax return. But on top of that, you'll get the good feeling that comes from helping a bright future draw that much closer.

Please help with a donation so we can find the cure -- and so I can SHUT UP. Everyone deserves a lifetime.
