So here we are: another September knocking on the door.
I've got a lot going on and a lot to think about:
I swear to God, I have no idea how the folks out there with kids manage to juggle everything.
I've got a lot going on and a lot to think about:
- My mom's birthday on Saturday (and she never wants anything that lasts, so it's probably flowers again this year unless I can think of something creative):
- A training walk two and a half hours from home in Brattleboro, VT with Carole and a couple of 3-Day walkers from Northampton, MA, also on Saturday
- A business trip to South Carolina on Tuesday
- Many more business trips to plan in September and October
- My 13th wedding anniversary on September 13
- My 43rd birthday on September 20
- Carole's birthday on October 8
- The Washington, DC 3-Day from October 8 to October 10
- Vacation in Florida the last week of October
- The Tampa Bay 3-Day the weekend of October 29-30-31.
I swear to God, I have no idea how the folks out there with kids manage to juggle everything.

Date: 2010-09-01 03:26 pm (UTC)With just one Brilliant Offspring, the combination of her interests and ours means basically every weekend has one or more activities planned until roughly Christmas.
The bad part is that we got into the childrearing business rather late. The constant activity isn't a problem by itself, it's the mismatch between the activity and our capacity to handle it. If the kid had only been considerate enough to get herself conceived about five years earlier we'd all be in much better shape now.

Date: 2010-09-01 07:18 pm (UTC)First, one gets a job that doesn't involve traveling (taking pay cut in the process). Second, one downgrades celebrations of all adult birthdays/anniversaries/whatever that don't end in 0 to a simple night out with a present, wrapping optional, if that. Third, one limits one's philanthropic impulses to donating money to child's school during annual fund drive and to friends who are more motivated. Fourth, one stops exercising entirely.
As long as you're willing to become a chubby, sleep-deprived person who only ever leaves the house for work and to go to the playground, it's a piece of cake!
