Tampa Bay 3-Day
Oct. 29th, 2010 04:42 amIt's that brutal time of the day, 4:30 in the morning, but Carole and I are up showering and getting our clothing on and in a few minutes we'll be walking over to the Opening Ceremonies location for the 2010 Tampa Bay Susan G. Komen 3-Day For The Cure. It begins in the county park next door to our hotel here in Clearwater Beach, Florida, and concludes in a park on the Tampa Bay side of St. Petersburg on Sunday afternoon.
I have said very little about this walk as opposed to the Twin Cities and Washington DC walks I did earlier this year for the simple reason that this week Carole and I have been battling bad viral colds all week. Yes, we've been to the doctor -- the usual "lots of liquids and rest" advice was offered up. We did little else while we were here in the Florida sun -- rested, drank lots of Vitamin C-laden drinks, and rested again. A dive bag full of our snorkeling gear went unused as we decided it was not in the cards for us to go out and get chilled snorkeling with manatees at 6 am after all.
Are we over the colds? Mostly. I still have a bit of a cough now and then and Carole managed to get a bacterial infection of her clogged Eustachian tubes and eyes and got put on Augmentin mid-week. She's responding well to it and says she thinks she'll be fine and will have enough energy to do the walk. If we wind up not having the go to make it all sixty miles and we feel as if we're doing ourselves harm trying, I guess there's always the sweep vans. :(
If you want to read about coming out and cheering us at some point, the Spectator Info page is here: http://www.the3day.org/site/PageServer?pagename=TB_Spectator
Anyway -- as opportunity permits, I'll post further updates. Wish us well -- and many thanks to the folks who donated on my behalf toward the cause of finding cures for breast cancer.
